Voller: the requisite asshole of the group. Lourdes: the fresh-off-the-line, green-with-lack-of-experience youngster, who is a cookie cutter attempt at any movie, tv show, or better written book having a character you would hopefully feel empathy for, when she eventually kicks the fucking bucket. Nysus: the team nerd, who uses an allegory to r/conspiracy to give everyone the much needed details when it’s narratively convenient. Kane: second in command cum ship medic who is the strong, well meaning love interest to Claire - when he’s not making Claire regret showing any semblance of a human emotion. You have the try-to-be-stoic, trauma ridden team leader in Claire, who does her best to not let anyone past her walls - but fails miserably every time an opportunity presents itself. The manner in which it is written makes me think of JK Rowling’s Sorcerers Stone, as an example.Įvery character is an severely unlikable, trope-ridden, one dimensional personality to the point that there is absolutely no nuance, beyond their pre-functionary actions that wouldn’t infringe on any of these characters personalities or motivations - which destroys any attempt at genuine character growth. The writing is juvenile, and there are so many instances of terrible prose that would have made a better book if Barnes cut them out all together.
